Amid Much Anticipation, Martin’s Self-Titled Album Released Today!!
By Poppy Gonzalez

Well New Yorkers, today is the day we’ve all been waiting for.  Just 3 days off a fresh appearance on Saturday Night Live, Latin Enigma Ricky Martin finally releases his self-titled debut to the public.  I for one am just about ready to “take my clothes off and go dancing in the rain” with excitement.  Apparently, I’m not the only one, as word out of the Kings Plaza Sam Goody this morning, is that both the CD and cassette versions are selling quickly.

The current single, “Livin’ La Vida Loca” has been all over TRL and Z100, and is topping every notable chart in the country.  And as tough as this reporter tries to be in most columns, even I will admit it: This is a Phat song!  It might just be time for me to trade in my JNCO Jeans for a nice pair of tight black pants and finally take some salsa dancing lessons, which clearly is how you pick up women.  If you need an example, look no further than Ricky Martin, himself.  The Hispanic Heartthrob obviously is bedding so many women that he is clearly the envy of any man with a pulse.

Just one year after he crooned on “The Cup of Life,” used last year as the Official Song of the 1998 World Cup, Martin has clearly matured stylistically.  And now, with his first-ever English language album, the former Menudo alum, cuts his chops on several songs, sure to be hits later this year.  Upbeat numbers like “Shake Your Bon-Bon,” mixed with ballads like “She’s All I Ever Had” only reiterate what’s already certain to this writer: Ricky Martin has arrived, and watch out Ladies, ‘Cause he’s here to stay!
