Emerge! is one of the largest events featuring independent designers during New York Fashion Week. Designer Borris Powell headlined Tuesday night’s event with an exciting showcase. The Chicago native’s collection has been described as strongly tailored, vibrantly colored, and embodies a sophisticated minimalism with a modern spin. The Twisted Daisy Collection reflects the energy of today’s eclectic woman and that energy was on display in the Financial District for Powell’s show for a select group to see.

Borris Powell Designs features women’s clothing ranging from evening gowns to cocktail dresses, jumpers and outerwear. The designer has been featured in numerous publications and events throughout the Chicago area and has received national recognition.

The packed Broad Street Ballroom was abuzz for the evenings emerging designers who also included b.-Vain Couture, Adriana Osorio Lugo, and Catou respectively. Each of these masters of needle and thread fearlessly displayed their innovative collections. Being a male, Catou’s men’s suits were as eye grabbing as any of the female runway models. They were conservative, yet retro with subtle 1980′s flare.

The crowd was chock full of fashion’s elite and local New York celebrities including MSNBC anchor, Tamron Hall who looked stunning in trendy evening wear. As each designer presented, the savvy onlookers eagerly applauded many of the creations. This kept the night highly positive, with Mr. Powell even jumping in the air in celebration after his showcase.

Attending a showcase featuring up and coming independent talent is a fascinating look at what’s to come down the fashion-pike, during a full week that tends to favor the big wigs of the industry. It is imperative for a business to have new blood running through its veins, keeping things interesting, but most importantly, cool. Emerge! is created and produced by D.
