Arts & Culture
Sunday, February 5th – Even though many of you will be hunkered down at bars with a monster plate of wings for the game, some of you may want to take in some art. Head over to the Guggenheim, which is basically a piece of art itself for a preview of “An Iliad” prior to its New York premiere at New York Theatre Workshop. Lisa Peterson will direct Tony Award–winning actors Denis O’Hare (Assassins, Take Me Out) and Stephen Spinella (Angels in America) in this tale of gods and goddesses, undying love, and endless battles.(The Guggenheim)
Sports
Saturday, February 4th- It’s been a rough start to the shortened season for the New York Knickerbockers. But with Melo and A’mare finally healthy and on the same page, the time seems right for a turnaround. And with the neighborly Nets heading to town, New Jersey may be just what the Knicks need to cure what ails them. ( Knicks-Nets Tickets)
Sunday, February 5th- Pre-game for the big game at Madison Square Garden with the other Blue Wrecking Crew- your New York Rangers. The rivals from Philadelphia come to town as the Flyers take on the Rangers in an afternoon matinee at 1pm. Will New York have THAT much more to celebrate come Monday? Get to MSG in person and see for yourself! ( Rangers-Flyers Tickets)
Sunday, February 5th- Whether you’re a Jet fan or a Giant fan, at your core, you’re a New Yorker. Ditch the bar and find a friend’s apartment, cozy up with a case of beer and enjoy watching a local team in the Super Bowl. It don’t happen all that often, so revel in it while you still can.
Music & Entertainment
Friday, February 3rd- Movie release day. Quiet night tonight? Check out these releases coming out today. “Big Miracle†(PG) starring John Krasinski and Drew Barrymore, features a news reporter recruiting his former flame to save a family of whales in the Arctic. Not your cup of milk? Check out Daniel Radcliffe in “The Woman in Black,†(PG-13) a thriller about a ghost terrorizing local townspeople. The trailer looks scary but at PG-13, how scary will it be, right? Don’t blame us if you hate them both.
Friday, February 3rd – Saturday, February 4th – Some notable music coming through our area this weekend. Turn back the clock tonight at Irving Plaza! It’s The Yardbirds and Vanilla Fudge on a co-headlining bill. Tickets start at just $32 for some of the legends from the 1960s in one of the most historic venues in our area! (The Yardbirds and Vanilla Fudge) Also tonight, LocalBozo.com approved Machine Head brings Suicide Silence and Darkest Hour to the west side’s Best Buy Theater. At just $25, you owe it to yourself to check out one of metal music’s rising stars! See if they’re worth all of our hype. (Machine Head Tickets). Tomorrow night, Irving Plaza hosts the first of two shows featuring The Darkness. Justin Hawkins and company will bring the noise to the former Fillmore East space with hits like “I Believe in a Thing Called Love.†(High voice: Just listen to the rhythm of my heart) (The Darkness Tickets)
Nightlife
Saturday, February 4th -Â Corona Light is doing it again! It’s Electric Beach at Santos Party house, the wildly popular nightlife event celebrating all things electronic music. Santos will let down the usual pretentious velvet rope that often bars true music fans from seeing intimate DJ showcases like this. This Saturday be sure to get on line early to witness the crazy skills of Alex Kenji and John Hamilton. (Santos Party House)

Saturday, February 4th- You may have to take a bus over, but join LocalBozo.com at the Meadowlands for the 2nd Annual International Great Beer Expo. The Meadowlands Exposition Center is a 17 minute ride from Manhattan, easily accessible from the Port Authority, and will host beers from over 50 different global breweries and over 100 different beers. There’s an afternoon (12:30pm – 4pm) and an evening session (5:30pm – 9pm) so you can plan your day accordingly, but I don’t think you’re making it out afterwards. (The International Great Beer Expo)
