Legendary British photographer Mick Rock has spent decades taking pictures of some of music’s most iconic characters. From Bowie to Mercury, Bono to Gaga, Blondie to Iggy Pop, Rock’s imaginative talents have captured some of the most incredible and candid shots in music’s rich history. Thursday night, Chelsea’s CATM Gallery hosted the opening reception for Mick Rock’s Legend Series with the diminutive but open layout as the canvas to showcase the photographer’s works.

The three hour, admission free event hosted a marriage of rock and art fans, suited up with swagger to sip on some free drinks, nosh on some grapes, and move around the room, taking in some of Mick Rock’s classic portraits. Perhaps best known as David Bowie’s official photographer, Rock’s imagery has been utilized time and time again for album covers like Queen II (Queen), Coney Island Baby (Lou Reed), and End of the Century (The Ramones). Additionally, Rock worked as the lead photographer on rock friendly films “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and “Hedwig and the Angry Itch” to name a few.

The CATM Gallery is hosting Rock’s Legend Series is running from March 22nd through April 22nd and dropping by to take a look at the pieces or even consider buying some, is completely free. Since the room is relatively small, you can check out all of the incredible works in minutes, and it makes for a fun trip through rock music history if you’re walking in the neighborhood. For more information on hours and the Gallery itself, check out CATM Chelsea.
