Some 200 guests flocked to the Lower East Side on Thursday night as the rustic rooftop of the Hotel Chantelle played host to a three hour event hosted by Thrillist and sponsored by Sapporo beer. An in-person art battle would be hosted on site as two murals would be drawn up out of thin air by competing artists during a breezy July sunset as guests around the space clamored for some of the delicious passed around fare being served. Appropriately dubbed the 2015 “Legendary Soiree,” members of the media joined dozens of the city’s thrill-seekers for the promotional event, with ice cold beers allowing everyone in the house to find common ground.

New Yorkers are no strangers to Sapporo’s iconic silver cans, massive in size and easily identifiable. During the evening, refreshing cans and bottles of Sapporo Premium Beer and Sapporo Light were quickly opened and doled out to the outstretched arms of the many after work types looking to unwind during the happy hour party. The festive mood was further complemented by a house DJ working the mix, spinning some throwback hip hop alongside a live violinist who more than capably kept up with his antics. Guests were treated to swag from beer koozies and bottle openers from Sapporo to Thrillist’s very own ear buds as keepsakes from the affair- but it was the literal staring at a blank white wall that seemed to captivate the groups of people the most.

Though the suds certainly went down smoothly, they were assisted by a handful of delicious bite-sized offerings, curated by the Hotel Chantelle. From the likes of decadent “French Onion Soup Dumplings” and “Sweet Corn Croquettes” to “Vegetable Sushi Rolls” and tasty “Pigs in a Pretzel,” the competition to grab at the available fare was as fiery as the art battle itself. Street artists ELLE and Lamour Supreme took center stage using solely black and white colors to sketch out two incredibly detailed designs as hundreds of eyes gawked behind them. Though ELLE was announced as the evening’s winner, a booze-fueled Thursday night underneath a cloudless sky allowed all of us to feel victorious on this night.
